Sisters of Springvale
Original Painting
60” x 48” x 1.5”, acrylic on canvas
“Sisters of Springvale is a special painting that is all about my childhood growing up with my sister. Specific flowers are in this painting to represent specific things. For example, I have wild strawberries and their flowers as a reference to the tiny strawberries we would pick every summer in the meadow by our house. We also had giant sunflowers growing in our garden. Daisies represent innocence, purity and our childhood. Clovers represent the luck we had growing up and roses represent my sister’s June birthday while marigolds represent my October birthday. I combined all of these symbols and images as an homage to our childhood. Further, I used an image of this painting to create a repeat pattern that was printed onto a duvet cover/bedding for the show’s display. The childhood bed we shared as little girls is in the show- with the printed floral duvet cover (which will soon be available to purchase/order!), to symbolize these past memories spent with my dear sis.” -Sara
